Growth in children can be seen in physical, intellectual, and hormonal changes, and many others, including curiosity. Maybe it will depend on the circle of friends, but a child's curiosity about things that are sexual will come. Especially because of the convenience of technology, children have been introduced to gadgets from an early age. It would be easy for them to figure out their curiosity.
If you see your child watching porn one day, what should you do as a parent?
First, don't panic. The fear is that when we panic, we will do or say things we will regret later. When we feel disappointed, angry, or have other negative feelings, it's a good idea to decide when we already feel calm.
Sooner or later, children will know adult things, especially during puberty. The role of parents is to act as a guide and provide sexual education or teach them about reproductive organs before they find out from inappropriate sources. This can even push children into negative things.
Don't be too hard
It will indeed make you disappointed or annoyed if you know that your child is viewing content that they should not be able to consume. But there are better ways and choices than scolding children with harsh sentences.
Wait until the child calms down.
It wasn't just the parents whose hearts would be restless. Children will also feel embarrassed and uncomfortable. Usually, children who are caught consuming adult content will feel ashamed and lie to cover up their mistakes. Moral support is also needed so children can be honest and open to their parents.
Ask how children can watch adult content.
Once your child is calm and able to talk to the truth, ask him why he saw adult content. If he is curious about a friend's words, advise him that it is not good and provide sex education. Give the understanding that if you are curious, ask your father or mother. As parents, we shouldn't judge a child's curiosity and what he will talk about. This will create a comfortable and safe environment for the child to open up to the family.
Let them know that pornography is dangerous.
If the child is a little older (adult), then the possibility to watch or see pornography is still there. So tell him what terrible effects that can be caused by watching pornography in terms of health, society, and psychology.
Seeing the children we love and care for doing something we forbid may be hard and disappointing. The key is not to panic and always try to create comfortable environmental conditions for our children and for our families.
