In some cases, vaginal discharge after sex is common. However, it should be emphasized that not all vaginal discharge is normal.
If the following features characterize the vaginal discharge, do not worry, as this is normal.
1. No smell. Even if an aroma does appear, it is usually manageable
2. White or clear.
3. The texture is thick and sticky.
4. Vaginal discharge is slippery and wet.
What are the characteristics of abnormal vaginal discharge?
1. Red vaginal discharge
The red color on vaginal discharge indicates bleeding that needs to be aware of. Sometimes such conditions are early symptoms of endometrial cancer. Consult a doctor immediately if you experience it.
2. White or yellowish vaginal discharge
White or yellowish vaginal discharge with a dense, thick texture and strong odor is a sign of a possible yeast infection in the vagina. Usually, this type of vaginal discharge comes with itching or irritation.
3. Yellow-green discharge
Greenish-yellow vaginal discharge usually indicates a bacterial infection or a sexually transmitted disease, especially if the texture is thick, lumpy, and smelly.
4. Pink vaginal discharge
Usually, a discharge that is pink in color contains a small amount of blood. This condition can be a sign of bleeding in early pregnancy. However, when you experience this after sex, a small tear in the vagina or cervix may occur. As a result, your vaginal discharge will be pink.
5. Gray
Leukorrhoea can also be gray. Usually, this condition marks the symptoms of a vaginal bacterial infection called bacterial vaginosis. In addition to gray vaginal discharge, this condition also causes several other symptoms, such as:
- Itchy
- Vagina and vaginal discharge smell bad
- Redness around the vulva or vaginal opening
- If you experience this, see a doctor immediately. Usually, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics if you test positive for a vaginal bacterial infection.
Does sex during vaginal discharge dangerous?
Leukorrhoea caused by infection or inflammation in the vagina is dangerous because it can exacerbate symptoms and cause discomfort. If a sexually transmitted disease causes the infection, having sex can spread the infection to your partner. However, confirmed by a doctor, an infection caused by a fungus (candidiasis) will not worsen the symptoms and is safe to do as long as both parties feel comfortable.
Yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis are not sexually transmitted diseases. However, it should be noted that having multiple partners can increase the risk of bacterial vaginosis.
However, sexual intercourse can transmit diseases such as trichomoniasis. It's best to use protection if intercourse can increase your risk of contracting a disease. To prevent a recurrence of infection, do not have sexual intercourse if you and your partner are still showing symptoms and treatment has not been completed.
