5 Tips for Not Gaining Weight During the Holidays

Health 951

1. Make sure to Stay Active

On vacation, some people just want to lie down at home and some want to go visit various tourist attractions with family or partner. In order to avoid an increase in the number on the scale, what we must do is stay active. Why? Because when we are not active, while the culinary continues, we can automatically gain weight.

How to do this? Increase walking, for example when visiting places to eat that are not far from where you live or hotel. Another way is to take the time to go to the gym in the hotel, either in the morning before starting activities or in the evening when you're done traveling all day.

2. Keep an Eye on Diet (Portion and Balance)

Who suddenly became a hobby of eating on vacation? It feels like you want to try everything. That's fine, but control the portions. An easy way is to use a smaller plate or one large portion for two people. Eat in moderate portions, not in extra large portions at every meal.

Now, during the holidays, it doesn't mean you can't eat your favorite foods (which are usually high in sugar, fat, or calories). Your psychological cravings can still be satisfied, but remember to keep it balanced. Don't just eat carbs. So, how do you do that? Follow these tips!

  • Include vegetables in every main meal

  • Ask the waiter not to add too much sugar or sweeteners to drinks

  • If you want to eat dessert cake, then have fresh fruits or whole grain bread with eggs for breakfast or have a protein-rich salad in the evening.

3. Mindful Eating

People are often in a hurry when on vacation, for example because of the distance from one place to another or because they want to avoid traffic. In fact, when we eat while distracted, we tend to overeat. This results in more calories than the daily requirement. This happens because people are unable to pay attention to their body's satiety signals.

Therefore, try to apply mindful eating every time you eat. Avoid distractions such as gadgets or work and focus on doing only one thing at a time, aka eating. Chew your food slowly and thoroughly, so you can realize when the satiety signal appears.

Don't forget mindful eating!

4. Picky Snacks

Snacking to fill your stomach during the trip may be unavoidable. However, we have to be picky about the type of snacks we eat, aka staying wise. Remember that snacking is not done because you see idle food, but because you are really hungry. Then, when you are hungry, choose healthier snacks or foods that are still in their original form. Examples are as follows:

  • Fruits that are easy to carry around (oranges, grapes, salak)

  • Nuts (almonds, cashews)

  • Protein bars or energy bars

5. Be Consistent with Bedtime

Getting enough sleep during vacation is quite challenging. There must be a lot of Ladies here who don't want to miss the evening chats or marathon watching Korean dramas. In fact, many studies have shown that poor sleep quality can lead to poor eating habits.

Sleep restriction can increase hunger hormones, causing people to eat more and automatically consume more calories. In addition, lack of sleep is also known to lower the body's metabolism, not to mention if physical activity is also low. Inevitably, weight gain occurs.

For Ladies who really want to maintain their weight during the holidays, the tips above must be very useful, right? It's quite simple, starting from making sure your body stays active, paying attention to your diet as well as mindful eating, snacking wisely, and getting enough sleep.
