Kasus COVID-19 Mulai Melonjak: Ayo Lakukan Pencegahan Kembali

COVID-19 Cases on the Rise Again: Let's Take Prevention Measures Again

Health 821

1. Use Masks

Previously, there was relaxation, and masks were no longer mandatory. However, their use is now being recommended again. One reason for recommending mask use is due to the high level of community mobility, such as returning to work or school offline, and traveling out of town.

Masks are designed to trap droplets and particles that we inhale, cough, or sneeze. Some masks offer better protection than others. Examples of masks that can be used include 3-ply medical masks or N95 masks (preferable). Masks should not be worn haphazardly; there is a proper way to wear them, as outlined by WHO:

  • Clean hands before and after wearing a mask and every time you touch it.
  • Ensure that the mask covers the mouth, nose, and chin properly.
  • Store fabric masks in a clean plastic bag for later washing or dispose of medical masks in the trash.

Let's start using masks again!

2. Maintain Cleanliness

Remember to regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with soap and running water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. The goal is to ensure that the virus is removed from the hands. Additionally, practice coughing and sneezing etiquette by covering your elbow or using a tissue (then dispose of it afterward).

Not only personal hygiene but also environmental cleanliness is equally important to maintain. Clean and disinfect surfaces regularly, especially those frequently touched by many people, such as door handles, faucets, or smartphone screens. Carry alcohol-based disinfectants (hand sanitizers) wherever you go.

3. Improve Air Circulation

Increasing air circulation through ventilation and filtration can help prevent virus particles from accumulating in indoor air, thus protecting the body from COVID-19 infection and transmission. Why is that? Because virus particles are more likely to spread indoors than outdoors. Examples of actions to improve air circulation include:

  • Opening windows
  • Regularly cleaning AC filters
  • Turning on fans

Ensure that the air circulation in your environment is good.

4. Avoid Crowded Places

The spread of the COVID-19 virus often occurs in crowded places, especially indoors. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid enclosed spaces or crowds. Small spaces increase the risk of virus exposure. However, if it is unavoidable, ensure good air circulation in the room, maintain physical distance, and don't forget to wear a mask.

5. Do Not Ignore Symptoms

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, dry cough, fatigue, and loss of taste and smell. If you experience any of these symptoms, do not ignore them. Immediately get tested at the nearest healthcare facility. If the result is positive, follow the further instructions given by healthcare workers.

So, at this time, it's a good idea to start preventive measures again because several COVID-19 cases have been found in Indonesia. Although the situation is still relatively under control, it's worth taking preventive actions, including wearing masks, maintaining personal and environmental hygiene, improving air circulation, avoiding crowded places, and of course, getting tested when feeling unwell.
