What Does It Feel Like to Watch a Concert on a Giant LED Screen? It’s sure to be an exciting and unforgettable experience.

Introducing the Sphere, a state-of-the-art concert venue like never before!

From Ambitious Project to Reality

Located in Paradise, Las Vegas, the ambitious Sphere project was initially named MSG (Madison Square Garden) Sphere, a collaboration between MSG Entertainment and Las Vegas Sands Corp. After MSG Entertainment split into two entities, the project was renamed Sphere.

Initially, the MSG Sphere estimated the project would cost $1.2 billion. However, the global crisis in 2021-2022 caused construction costs to balloon to $2.3 billion, equivalent to over 36 trillion rupiah. Wow!

No less than 1,500 workers were deployed to complete the construction of Sphere, starting from the groundbreaking in September 2018. After five years, the Sphere officially opened with a U2 concert on September 29, 2023.

It's no wonder that the Sphere has piqued the curiosity of many. Top host Oprah, NBA player LeBron James, Hollywood actor Aaron Paul, and legendary tennis player Andre Agassi were all seen in the audience to experience its magic.

Before you start saving up to attend a concert at the Sphere, let’s explore what it feels like to watch a concert there.

Grand and Brilliant Architecture

Going back to the U2 concert. Not only was the performance solid, but U2 also showcased videos from various locations on the giant LED screen.

But this isn’t just any LED screen. Saco Technologies, a Canadian company that designed and built the LED screens inside and outside the Sphere, installed 1.2 million LED lights with 48 diodes each, producing 256 million different colors.

To put it into perspective, the screen's size is equivalent to two international standard soccer fields. Can you imagine how clear the image is?

So clear, in fact, that Jonathan Labbee, CEO of Saco Technologies, said that such a grand LED screen can produce a resolution of 170 million pixels!

“This is the highest resolution screen in the world,” he revealed.

It's not just the LED screen that’s astonishing. The sound system is also recognized as the largest in the world, with 160,000 loudspeakers, 300 mobile loudspeakers, and amplifiers, capable of producing clear and grand sound.

But don't worry, this sound system has been meticulously calculated so it won't harm your hearing.

Moving on to its structure, the Sphere is 111 meters tall and 156 meters wide, with a maximum audience capacity of 20,000 people. The materials consist of the best steel frame and concrete to support tens of thousands of seats and millions of LED diodes.

Now, here’s what makes the Sphere unique.

The LED screen isn’t flat like in a cinema; it’s curved around the audience with a 270-degree angle. So, watching a concert here feels like you’re watching from the curvature of the earth. The difference is, the “sky” in the Sphere can dynamically change with ultra-realistic images.

Wow, this will be an unforgettable concert-watching experience, possibly even giving you post-concert depression.
