Health 870

Menstruation is when the blood vessels in the uterine wall release due to the absence of fertilization.

But do you know that there are four stages in a menstrual period?

Here are the four stages of the menstrual process.

Menstrual Phase

The menstrual phase is where the unfertilized egg sheds with the blood, exits through the vagina, and lasts 4 to 6 days. At this stage, ladies usually feel symptoms of stomach cramps that prevail during the menstrual phase.

Follicular Phase

In this stage, the ovaries will produce follicles containing eggs, and this stage lasts from the first day until entering the ovulation phase.

This phase generally occurs from the 10th to the 20th day. The length of the day spent determines how long the next menstrual cycle will take.

Ovulation Phase

This phase is characterized by the release of mature eggs by the ovaries, which is influenced by the luteinizing hormone (Lh).

The egg that has been released moves towards the fallopian tube and uterus, waiting to be fertilized by sperm.

This ovulation phase will also mark a woman's fertile period.

Luteal phase

In this phase, the follicle releases its egg and its shape changes to a corpus luteum.

Then the corpus luteum will trigger an increase in the hormone progesterone and thicken the lining of the uterine wall.

If the egg is not fertilized, the corpus luteum will shrink and be absorbed by the uterus, and this causes a decrease in estrogen levels which triggers menstrual periods.

So, there are 4 phases in menstruation.
