Kafein Bukan Hanya Terletak Pada Kopi

Caffeine Isn't Just In Coffee

Health 1605

Coffee now seems as if it is no longer seen as an ordinary drink but as a lifestyle and has even become a habit under the pretext of consuming caffeine for daily needs. It's not uncommon for someone to feel the "need" to drink coffee because they find it easier to focus on work or to complete tasks. Are you one of them?

Caffeine does have a bitter taste and has several health benefits, such as weight loss. That's because caffeine can suppress appetite and stimulate the process of thermogenesis which is the body's mechanism that works to process or convert food into energy. Consuming caffeine is also beneficial for preventing faster cognitive decline. The experts conducted a study later published in Advances Nutrition, concluding that those who consumed caffeine as a whole experienced less decline in brain function compared to participants who did not consume caffeine. Caffeine still has several other benefits.

However, not everyone likes the image of the taste of coffee, whether the original drink or its processed product. But don't worry. You can get the benefits of caffeine from other drinks. What drinks contain caffeine besides coffee?

Tea

Tea is one of the most commonly known drinks to have caffeine. Usually, people who don't like coffee will consume tea to make them focus. Brewed black tea contains 47 mg of caffeine, brewed green tea contains 28 mg of caffeine, and ready-to-drink tea in packs contains 19 mg of caffeine.

Hot chocolate

Although it depends on the brand, it turns out that brewed hot chocolate also contains caffeine! Starbucks serves one serving of hot chocolate (16 ounces) containing 25 mg caffeine. At Dunkin' Donuts, they only have 6 mg of caffeine. But it turns out that if you can DIY hot chocolate at home like Nestle, they claim that their product is 99.9% free of caffeine.

Kombucha

This drink is green tea or black tea that has been fermented. Launching from the International Journal of Food Microbiology, the process of making this drink is done by adding bacteria, yeast, and sugar to the tea and letting it ferment for more than a week. The amount of caffeine contained in kombucha is only 8-15 mg.

Matcha

Matcha is a product made from green tea leaves. Then the caffeine content is almost equivalent. Every 8 ounces of ready-to-serve matcha contains 70 mg of caffeine. Some matcha connoisseurs also claim they feel fresher after consuming matcha and eventually switch from coffee.

Energy drinks

Energy drink is a beverage product that claims to be able to increase energy to increase concentration. The benefits of stimulating the brain are obtained from caffeine. Even though the caffeine content in each brand is different, on average, energy drink products such as Kratingdaeng, Red Bull, Extra Joss, or Kukubima contain 80-200 mg of caffeine.

Even though it has health benefits or can stimulate enthusiasm and brain performance, be careful about consuming caffeine daily. Consuming too much caffeine can cause health problems such as anxiety, insomnia, headaches, dizziness, abnormal heartbeat, and addiction. Avoid consuming or at least reduce caffeine consumption if you are pregnant and a nursing mother, suffer from insomnia, suffer from stomach problems, have anxiety disorders, and are taking medications, including antibiotics or heart medications.
